Floodplain Information

The Town of Ennis participates in the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Flood Insurance Study and is committed to reducing the risk of flood damage to people, property, and infrastructure.

Floodplains are areas that have a higher likelihood of flooding during significant rain, runoff, or snowmelt events. Development within designated flood hazard areas is regulated to help protect public safety, minimize property damage, and maintain eligibility for federally backed flood insurance.

Before You Build

If your property is located within or near a floodplain, a Floodplain Development Permit may be required before beginning construction, grading, filling, excavation, placement of manufactured homes, or other development activities. Property owners are encouraged to contact Town Hall before starting any project to determine applicable requirements.

Flood Insurance

Standard homeowners' insurance policies typically do not cover flood damage. Flood insurance may be available through the National Flood Insurance Program and is recommended for properties located in or near flood-prone areas.

Floodplain Maps

Flood hazard areas are identified on Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) prepared by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Property owners can contact Town Hall for assistance in determining whether a property is located within a regulated floodplain.
